Differences

“Come, give us a taste of your quality.”
—Shakespeare

D says that everything I post on my blog should be of the same quality as my personal essays and fiction. He says that people (which means: you) will take these posts as an indication of my abilities as a storyteller and novelist.

He’s not entirely wrong, my husband.

Still, there’s a difference between holding your interest for a minute and enticing you to read an entire book. A difference between writing down what I think today and telling a complicated story. A difference between revising a text once and rewriting a manuscript multiple times with the crucial insights of readers, agents, and editors.

I’m confident you understand these differences.
